Appeal to toy makers to make environmentally friendly, attractive toys.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called on toy manufacturers to focus on innovation and reduce the use of plastic in manufacturing and instead increase the use of environmentally friendly materials. Inaugurating India’s first Toy Fair 2021, Modi said, ‘We have to be self-sufficient in the toy sector and also meet the needs of the global market’.
He regretted the current state of India in the market and said that India’s share in the $ 100 billion global toy market is very low, and about 85 percent of the toys sold in the country are imported. He said, ‘We need to promote hand made products in India.’ The Prime Minister interacted with traditional toy manufacturers from Chennapatnam, Varanasi and Jaipur and inspired them to make new toys keeping in mind the changing interest of children.
National toy action plan prepared
He asked toy manufacturers to make environmentally friendly, attractive and innovative toys and use more reusable materials. The Prime Minister said that the government has prepared a national toy action plan by involving 15 ministries to make the domestic toy industry competitive.
Aiming to make self-reliant in the toy sector
He said that the objective of this initiative is to make India self-reliant in the toy sector and to increase the presence of domestic toys in the global market. Modi said that tradition, technology, concept and potential exist in the Indian toy industry. He said, ‘We can give environmentally friendly toys to the world’.
