Prime Minister Narendra Modi has held a review meeting on lack of oxygen in the country. This review meeting of PM Modi was held on 12 states affected by Corona. PM Modi gave instructions to ensure supply of oxygen in this meeting.
A senior official source attached to the Prime Minister’s Office said that the Prime Minister directed in the meeting that all possible measures should be taken for uninterrupted supply of oxygen in any state of the country. If the demand for oxygen from domestic producers is not met, then it should also be imported.
It was told in the meeting that at present, there is a high demand for oxygen in 12 states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Officials said that there could be a demand of 4880 tonnes in the country on 20 April, 5619 tonnes on 25 April and 6593 tonnes on 30 April. Accordingly, preparations are going on. First, oxygen will be taken from domestic producers to meet the demand. If there is a shortage, then the requirement from abroad will be met.
The government has also allowed unregistered transport of oxygen tankers from one state to another for oxygen supply. Apart from this, the oxygen filling plant will also be allowed to work 24 hours with necessary safety measures. The government is also allowing the use of oxygen after cleaning the industrial cylinder. In addition, nitrogen and argon tankers can be used automatically as oxygen tankers in case of shortage of tankers. Officials also informed PM Modi about the efforts to import oxygen.
Let us know that earlier on Thursday, the Ministry of Health had said that on April 12, 2021, the country consumed 3,842 metric tons of medical oxygen, which is 54 per cent of the total production capacity. The maximum oxygen consumption is in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Rajasthan.
The ministry said that the current oxygen stock in the country is more than 50,000 metric tons, including the stock of manufacturing plants. The central government also asked the states to use medical oxygen responsibly and ensure that it is not wasted.
