Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Narendra Modi) chaired the meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Friday amid the fast growing cases of Corona virus infection in the country. During this time, PM Modi requested the Union Ministers to keep in touch with the people in their areas, help them and keep them informed about the situation. This was the first meeting of the Council of Ministers after the second wave of Corona virus infection in the country.
Presiding over the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister also stressed the need to ensure speedy identification and disposal of issues at the local level, according to an official statement. The statement said that this meeting was organized in a digital way to discuss the situation arising out of the second wave of Covid-19 in the country.
It said that the epidemic has created a crisis-like situation once in a century and has presented a great challenge to the world. It said that the Council of Ministers was informed about steps taken to increase the number of beds, oxygen facilities in hospitals and to address issues related to the availability of oxygen and other essential medicines.
A statement issued by PIB said that free food grains and financial assistance to Jan Dhan account holders were also discussed during the meeting to help the economically weaker sections. It was informed in the meeting that 15 crore corona vaccine doses have been given to the people so far in the country. According to the statement, it was also mentioned in the meeting that the country has been able to successfully produce two vaccines and many more claimants of the vaccine are going through various stages of approval.
At the meeting, NITI Aayog member VK Paul made a presentation on Covid-19 management. After him, Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Council of Ministers about the availability of oxygen and medicine respectively. The Prime Minister has held several rounds of meetings with the Chief Ministers of the states and top government officials to discuss the situation in Corona. He has also held talks with leaders of the pharmaceutical industry, oxygen suppliers, heads of the three services to deal with the epidemic.
