Even after Navjot Singh Sidhu was made the Punjab Congress chief, the relationship between him and Chief Minister Amarinder Singh does not seem to be getting back on track. Navjot Singh Sidhu, who became the new chief of Punjab Congress, has started showing his political power as soon as he takes over. On Wednesday, two days after his appointment as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president, Sidhu held a breakfast meeting with around 62 party MLAs at his residence in Amritsar.
After this, Sidhu boarded a luxury bus and bowed his head after reaching the Golden Temple along with party ministers and MLAs. Actually, the Congress fight in Punjab is not over yet. According to sources, Navjot Singh Sidhu will not publicly apologize to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh under any circumstances. At the same time, the Captain wants Sidhu to apologize publicly to him.
On Tuesday, CM Amarinder Singh dismissed reports that Sidhu had sought time to meet him. It was also said on behalf of the Chief Minister that unless Sidhu publicly apologizes for the derogatory remarks made against him on social media, the Chief Minister will not meet him.
Navjot Singh Sidhu became the ‘Captain’ of Punjab Congress, also appointed 4 working presidents
Singh’s media advisor Raveen Thakral tweeted that these reports are completely false that Navjot Singh Sidhu is seeking time to meet Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. There has been no change in the Chief Minister’s stand. He will not meet Sidhu until he publicly apologizes for the derogatory remarks made against him on social media.
Earlier, Punjab minister Brahm Mohindra ruled out any private meeting with Sidhu till the differences between Sidhu and Singh are resolved. Mohindra said this on a day when Sidhu went to Amritsar, where he was warmly received by his supporters and Congress workers. It is such a remark made by a minister after Sidhu was made the state chief, which shows that the crisis in Punjab Congress is not over yet.
Mohindra said that Amarinder Singh is the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and he will follow their instructions. Senior Congress leader Mohindra said that apart from being the CLP leader, the chief minister also heads the cabinet of which he is a part. He made it clear that till Sidhu resolves all issues with Singh, he will not meet him in person.
Singh is understood to have told All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Harish Rawat last week that he would not meet Sidhu until he apologized for his derogatory tweets against him. There has been no reaction from the Chief Minister so far on Sidhu being made the state Congress president.
