A cat lover has set up a 500 square yard garden for cats in Kutch, Gujarat. Upendra Goswami, a custom house agent living in Gandhidham city of Kutch, built a cat garden in 2017 which houses more than 200 cats. Goswami said that he has dedicated the cat house to his late sister, who died in 1994.
Goswami said that she celebrates her late sister’s birthday every year. Once a cat came into our house and did and ate his birthday cake. This incident happened after his death. Since then this cat has been living with us. We believe that it is our sister who is living with us in cat form. Goswami has been keeping cats since 1994, but in 2017 he built a cat house for them.
Cats reared in the cat house are provided with all facilities. They have four AC rooms and 16 cottages with 12 beds. There is shower and a mini theater where the cats watch animal shows in the evening. They are fed thrice a day and we ensure that they are given the best brand of kitten food.
He said that regular veterinary check-ups are done for the cats and Ahmedabad Jeevdaya Charitable Trust helps them in their endeavour.
Goswami’s wife is a school principal and also helps her husband in taking care of the cat house. The couple themselves bear 90% of the expenses of Rs 1.5 lakh required for the maintenance of the cat house.
Goswami has opened the cat garden to the visitors for four hours every Sunday with minimum entry fee.
