The death of Bihar’s Dalit leader Ramvilas Paswan in 2020 left a void in Indian politics and in the life of his son Chirag Paswan, who had to carry on his father’s legacy as His father was a leader with a national appeal. However, the absence of his father now proved to be harmful for Chirag. That’s why, like his Bollywood career halted years ago, now his political career was also stopped.
The sitting Lok Sabha MP from Jamui who called himself “Hanuman” of PM Modi and donated Rs 1.11 lakh for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. Now he was dismissed in his own family coup. In particular, history has been witness to many such political family feuds that led to the ousting of future leaders.
darkness under the lamp
On Monday, five out of six Lok Janshakti Party MPs in the Lok Sabha revolted against Chirag and chose his father’s youngest brother Pashupati Kumar Paras in his place, causing a big ruckus in Bihar politics. A day later, Chirag was also sacked from the post of the party’s national president.

Interestingly, Chirag was thrown out by his family members within months of taking over. One of the five-party leaders who rebelled against Chirag is his own cousin Prince Raj, who is an MP from Samastipur. Raj is the son of former Lok Sabha MP Ram Chandra Paswan, who passed away in 2019.
Naidu grabbed power from NTR
NT Rama Rao, a veteran actor, had also faced the same situation as Chirag. Entering politics at the age of 60, NTR started his own Telugu Desam Party (TDP), while his son-in-law, N Chandrababu Naidu was roped in to form the TDP organization. NTR ruled as the Chief Minister of Andhra for 13 years, when his son-in-law and trusted lieutenant Naidu revolted against him in 1995.
Justifying his coup, Naidu said he was forced to take action against his father-in-law because of NTR’s second wife Lakshmi Parvati’s growing influence on party affairs and the state government. Overnight, NTR was brought on the road. His fall was as dramatic as his glorious rise.
Jayalalithaa woke up like this
With the death of MG Ramachandran in Tamil Nadu in 1987, the onus was on his widow Janaki Ramachandran to carry on his legacy, however, this hardly lasted for 24 days. Following the chaos within the assembly on the day of the trust vote, the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had to dismiss his government and impose President’s rule. At the end of President’s rule, the DMK began the reign of MGR’s frequent partner and party general secretary Jayalalithaa.

Family discord is inevitable in Indian political families. In the Shiv Sena, the battle for political succession involving Bal Thackeray’s son Uddhav and nephew Raj was played out under the father’s supervision, before the son skillfully sorted it out with his father’s help.
On the other hand, Sharad Pawar also tried that the most powerful political family of Maharashtra should remain united, but sometimes discord comes in many headlines. Similarly recently, Jayant, son of late Chaudhary Ajit Singh, was rescued, as most of the legacy of his grandfather Charan Singh was taken over by his father’s associates.
Split in LJP amid discussion of reshuffle in Modi cabinet
With the buzz about a reshuffle in the Union Cabinet increasing, political observers believe that the incident is aimed at sabotaging Paswan’s chances of joining the government, but it remains to be seen whether the saffron party’s LJP will join the government in this manner. How does he react to the split?
Also, going forward, an important aspect will be how the core voters of the LJP, mostly members of the Paswan community, react to the entire development.
