Many urban areas are going to start lockdown by the end of the last week i.e. the weekend before Navratri, Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Baisakhi and many upcoming festivals. Several tightening restrictions have been put in place after the second wave of the pandemic (Covid-19) reached its peak in mid-April. Local restrictions, mini lockdowns, night curfews had already started in March.
But as the cases of daily infections in India are increasing, the list of cities facing lockdown is also getting longer. However, the northeastern states survive the second wave of coronavirus and are free from local restrictions.
Cities in which strict restrictions will be implemented from today
Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and entire Maharashtra
Tonight from 8pm onwards, the weekend lockdown and night curfew in all cities and districts of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Maharashtra will be locked up till 7pm on Monday evening. This is the first weekend of this year, when the state will have a lockdown. No movement of any kind other than necessary services will be permitted. The Mumbai authority has issued separate guidelines for the city.
Raipur in Chhattisgarh has been declared a containment zone and its boundary will be sealed from 9 am to 6 pm from 19 April to 6 am. Only essential services will be allowed for these 10 days and students appearing in the examination will be beyond the ban. Central government, state government, semi-government, as well as private offices and banks will remain closed during this period.
A 60-hour lockdown will be imposed in all cities of Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal, from 6 pm today. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has announced this. The lockdown was already continuing in many districts of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, but this weekend, strict restrictions will apply in all urban areas of the state.

Delhi, Noida, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Gujarat, Sundergarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur in Odisha, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh Already has a night curfew.
