Last year the coronavirus pandemic affected the whole world. Governments and health officials have advised people to stay at home and not go out without any reason as the most important way to prevent it. One family in Andhra Pradesh took this advice very seriously and the whole family imprisoned themselves in a tent house for about 15 years.
According to news agency ANI, the police on Wednesday rescued the family members, who had imprisoned themselves in a tent house for nearly 15 months in Kadali village in Andhra Pradesh, fearing getting infected with Covid-19.
Chopla Gurunath, the sarpanch of Kadali village, said, “Chuttugalla Beni, his wife and two children’s family lives here. They were scared of Corona and locked themselves in the house for about 15 months. Locked from inside.”
The matter came to light when a volunteer from a village visited the tent house to collect the thumb impressions of the family members for the household paperwork for them under the government scheme. When the family refused to come out, he told the whole matter to the village sarpanch and other people.
Village sarpanch Gurunath said, “When this volunteer reached outside the tent house and asked the family members to come out, they refused to come out and said that if they come out, we will die.”
He further informed that with the help of police and villagers, the family was immediately taken to the government hospital and is undergoing treatment.
Gurunath told that the family members were not even coming out to urinate or defecate and were doing all these things inside the tent house. Had they stayed inside for two or three more days, the family would have died.
Andhra Pradesh has so far reported 1,946,749 cases and 13,197 deaths due to the Covid-19 disease. On Wednesday, 2,527 new cases were reported in the state, 2,412 were cured and 19 deaths were reported. Active cases have increased marginally to 23,939, while the Covid-19 positive rate stands at 8.2 percent.
