Drone Rules 2021: The central government has made new guidelines regarding flying drones. The Civil Aviation Ministry has passed the new Drone Rules 2021, which will replace the existing Unmanned Aircraft Systems Rules 2021.
The government had announced the new drone regulations on July 15, and by August 5, views were sought from stakeholders and industry. The new rules were lauded by the stakeholders for simplifying the procedures to operate drones in India.
The new rules have been passed just a week after the government granted conditional permission to 10 organizations including Mahindra & Mahindra, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and Bayer Crop Science to use drones for various purposes for a period of one year. .

Now the government has issued new rules, in which no security clearance is now required before any registration or license is issued to operate drones. Whereas the fee for permission to operate a drone has become nominal.
It has been said by the government that drone corridors will be developed for cargo delivery. It is also reported that the coverage of drones has been increased from 300 kg to 500 kg for drones and drone taxis carrying heavy payloads.
As per the new rules, an interactive airspace map with green, yellow and red zones will be displayed on the Digital Sky platform. In the case of airport parameters, the Yellow Zone has been reduced from 45 km to 12 km.
The maximum fine under the Drone Rules, 2021 has been raised to Rs 1 lakh. However, it shall not apply to penalties in respect of violations of other laws. The new rules state that no pilot’s license is now required to operate nano drones and micro drones for non-commercial use.
