Byjus, India’s highest-value internet-based education company, announced on June 21 that it has acquired US-based reading platform Epic for $500 million.
Byju’s is focusing on expanding its education business in India and beyond. Epic has a collection of over 40,000 high quality books published by 250 of the world’s leading publishers.
Epic’s recommendations are customized based on the interests of the kids. Due to which parents can track the progress of their child and the time spent in studies. There are also some original stories on Epic that appeal to kids.
The details of the structure of this deal are not yet known. Speaking on the deal, Anita Kishor, Chief Strategy Officer, Byju’s said, “We are working on a model to inspire the next generation through interactive reading. This mission of ours will help millions of children to become life long learners.
It has also been said from Byju’s that it will invest $ 1 billion in North America. The company considers North America to be the most attractive market for itself. Let us tell you that this is not the first investment by the company in the US. Even before this, in the year 2019, it acquired the educational game maker Osmo in America for $ 120 million.
Last year also Byju’s acquired coding startup WhiteHat Jr. Byju’s launched an online one-on-one live learning platform called Future Schools only last month. It is for kids learning maths and coding.
