Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday continued to defend his party colleague and Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. He claimed that former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh in a letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray, while Deshmukh was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at Nagpur Hospital when the Home Minister claimed to meet Sachin Vazhe. This is the second consecutive time Pawar has defended Deshmukh.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was ready to say that Deshmukh held a press conference during this period and met with a Congress delegation on 15 February and 8 February respectively, and video and photographic evidence of these meetings Deshmukh Were also posted on Twitter. These same questions were also raised by some journalists in the media briefing of the NCP chief.
The minister later stated that he had a virtual meeting with the delegation and addressed the conference after his discharge and before going into home isolation. But the BJP also said that the police officer’s letter mentions the meeting till the end of February.
At the same time, Chief Minister Thackeray has not given any reply to Singh’s letter so far, although his party Shiv Sena has supported the Home Minister. At the press conference, Pawar showed a certificate issued by Alexis Multi-Specialty Hospital, Nagpur, where Deshmukh was admitted for Covid-19 treatment between 5 and 15 February. He said that Deshmukh was in quarantine at home till 27 February on medical advice after being discharged.
Pawan said, “In view of the latest evidence … it is not right to take Anil Deshmukh’s resignation … There is no basis for BJP’s demand for the resignation of Home Minister. I am absolutely clear that the allegations against Deshmukh are wrong, Because he was in Nagpur at that time. “
He also claimed that the allegations leveled against Deshmukh were intended to influence the investigation into the Antilia bomb case. “There are some names that need to be investigated, which some people may not like and thus, allegations were made against the Home Minister.”
BJP, on the other hand, alleged that Pawar was misleading the public. Fadnavis tweeted, “Sharad Pawar ji said, from 15 to 27 February, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was in the Home Quarantine, but was actually seen holding a press conference in the presence of security guards!”
Responding to Fadnavis, Home Minister Deshmukh said in a video statement that he met the media before he was discharged from the hospital. He said, “I was in the home quarantine until 27 February. I stepped out of my house on 28 February.”
