Big relief for the disabled, government made family pension rules easier for Disabled Survivors

The Central Government has made the family pension rules easier by giving huge relief to the disabled persons dependent on deceased government employees or pensioners. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that the Central Government has liberalized the criteria for eligibility of deceased government employees or family members of pensioners for pension. The government has exempted family pension to provide treatment and financial assistance to injured and disabled survivors. The government believes that the eligibility criteria for family pension applicable to other family members should not apply in the case of disabled children and siblings of a government employee. Rather they should get financial support so that they can live.

Jitendra Singh said that the government has reviewed the matter and has decided that the income criteria should be rationalized for eligibility for family pension for disabled employees and siblings of government employees and pensioners. This amount should be in proportion to the pension received by that family. According to the rules, deceased government employees and pensioners with disabilities and dependent disabled siblings will be eligible for family pension for their entire life. Also, they will also be eligible for dearness relief.

Those with income above Rs 9,000 will also get pension

The government has said that children of deceased government employees or pensioners who are mentally or physically disabled and unable to earn a livelihood due to disability will be eligible for family pension for their entire life. Currently, PwDs whose income is equal to or more than Rs 9,000 per month excluding family pension do not get family pension. Under the new system, such PwDs will also be given family pension.
