Toll operators have been given strict instructions that people can cross the plaza for free if their Fastag system does not work or fails to read the smart tag.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will draw a different color line on every toll lane on the National Highway and once the line is filled with a long line of vehicles, the toll operator will be allowed to travel free of cost for all vehicles on that particular lane To open the gate. Sources said that a plan is being prepared for this. The Ministry of Road Transport has started increasing congestion and real-time monitoring of toll plazas during the use of Fastag to pay toll charges.
A senior NHAI official said, “Strict monitoring is being done at the top level and we have been directed to take all necessary steps for the passengers to pass through the toll plaza easily as the government has paid fast to pay the toll. Promises uninterrupted travel through the plaza with access, which is essential to be believed. ”
For the last few days, senior officials including the Regional Officer, General Manager and Chief General Manager have been overseeing traffic management at the toll plaza. One of them said, “The number of transactions on toll plazas of remote areas through Fastag has increased from 60-70% to 90%. Therefore, we can no longer hide behind any excuse for congestion at the toll plaza. Strict monitoring of live data through the IT platform has brought a drastic change in the last few days. ” Meanwhile, officials said that the distance at which the colored line will be laid will vary from plaza to plaza depending on traffic and the number of toll lanes available.
Travel will be free if system is disturbed
Officials also claimed that all toll operators have been given strict instructions that people can cross the plaza for free if their system does not work or fails to read the smart tag. A notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport on May 7, 2018 states, “If a vehicle is connected to a user valid, working FASTag or any such device, and has sufficient balance in its account, electronic toll collection notwithstanding If payment is not being made due to disturbances in the city, then it will be allowed to cross the toll plaza for free. ”
Complaints of no exemption for return
Travelers have received some complaints of not getting exemption for the return journey within 24 hours and they are paying full toll both ways. In such a situation, exemption is allowed for return journey as per NHAI rules where toll is collected for NHAI. This rule does not apply to many private toll plazas. However, NHAI officials said that they would look into the issue and fix it soon.
