Assembly Elections 2021: Assembly elections have started in five states and one union territory from today. Ist Phase Voting for the assembly elections began in West Bengal (West Bengal) and Assam (Assam) on Saturday. The Election Commission has decided to use VVPAT along with Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at every polling station to increase transparency and reliability of the election process.
Votes will be cast for 47 seats on Saturday in the first phase of the three-phase assembly election in Assam. A total of 264 candidates are in the fray in this phase. Assembly elections are being held in eight phases in West Bengal. In the first phase, polling will be held in 30 seats, where a total of 191 candidates are in the fray.
The Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, has appealed to the people of Assam to cast as many votes as possible. PM Modi has especially urged the young friends of Assam to cast as many votes. PM Modi appealed and said that those who are eligible to vote, come and vote in record numbers.

Officials said elections would be held under tight security, with around 684 companies of central forces deployed, which would guard 10,288 polling booths built in 7,061 campuses. In addition, state police will also be deployed at strategic locations. The voting time has been extended by one hour in all the assembly constituencies except extremism and Naxalite affected areas.
At the same time, in view of the coronavirus epidemic, the Election Commission has allowed a maximum of 1000 voters to come to the polling stations. Earlier, 1500 voters were allowed.
