The issue of electronic voting machine (EVM) from the BJP candidate’s car in Karimganj district of Assam (Assam Assembly Polls) has stirred up after it surfaced. In this case, the Election Commission has suspended four election officials and ordered re-polling at that polling station. The Commission says that in order to eliminate any kind of apprehension, it has been decided to hold a re-election.
The Election Commission said in a statement that the presiding officer and three other officers have been suspended. The Election Commission said that though the seal of EVM was correct, it has been decided to re-vote at Ratbari (Su) LAC polling station number 149 Indira MV School. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi have attacked the BJP over the incident.
Violence in Karimganj
At the same time, the mob of BJP candidate Krishnendu Paul (Krishnendu Paul) used to drive EVM to the strong room in Karimganj erupted and violence ensued, after which the police opened fire in the air to control the situation. Controversy erupted on Friday morning over the incident. The opposition Congress and AIUDF alleged that EVMs were stolen.
Officials told the whole story
Officials said on Friday morning that the train from the 149-Indira MV school election party in Ratbari constituency broke down while driving to the Strong Room in Karimganj town. An official of the district administration said that after this they took help of a private vehicle. Incidentally, the vehicle was registered in the name of outgoing BJP MLA Krishnendu Paul of Pattharkandi.
Some people saw it when the train reached Nimal Bazar area. Paul is BJP candidate this time from Pattharkandi, while Ratbadi is represented by BJP MLA Bijoy Malakar. Malakar is also contesting the elections. Witnesses said the crowd mainly consisted of supporters of the AIUDF and the Congress. The mob ransacked the car, after which the election party had to leave EVM and leave.
Police had to shoot
Police sources told news agency PTI that the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police immediately rushed to the spot and tried to calm the crowd. But when the crowd did not listen, the police fired in the air to disperse them. He said that the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police then took the EVM to Pattharkandi police station at night from where it was deposited in the strong room at Karimganj. The second phase of the voting in Ratbari and Patharkandi constituency was held on Thursday.
BJP candidate dismisses all allegations
On the other hand, BJP candidate Paul dismissed the allegations of tampering with EVM and said that his brother in the car had given a lift to the election officials as his car had broken down. He told PTI that my brother was returning from Pattharkandi when some people asked for a lift from the car around nine o’clock in the night. He gave lift due to malfunctioning of the car.
He said that after the election hundreds of vehicles were returning to Karimganj due to which the highway was jammed. Our vehicle Mahindra Bolero also got stuck near Karimganj and during this time a crowd of political activists gathered and created a ruckus. They assaulted my driver and vandalized the car. Paul claimed that the party’s Ratbari candidates would win by a huge vote and there was no question of tampering with the EVM. An FIR is likely to be filed in the case.
