Free LPG Connection: The Uttar Pradesh government will provide around 20 lakh free gas connections to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families under the Ujjwala 2.0 scheme. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will distribute about 20 lakh free gas connections under the central government’s Ujjwala 2.0 scheme on Wednesday. For this a virtual program has been organized, during which the Chief Minister will also interact with some of the beneficiaries of the scheme.
According to a government spokesperson, under Ujjwala 2.0, migrant workers can avail free LPG connection with just a self-declaration. They will not be required to submit documents like proof of address. The objective of this scheme is to provide deposit-free LPG connection. For low-income families that were not covered under the first phase of the scheme.

Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10 when he gave LPG connections to the beneficiaries in Mahoba. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was initially launched by PM Modi on May 1, 2016 from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh.
An official spokesperson said that in the first phase of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, a total of one crore 47 lakh 43 thousand 862 LPG connections have been provided free of cost to the poor families of Uttar Pradesh. The poor families left out in the first phase of Ujjwala scheme and not covered under the scheme will get benefits in the second phase of PM Ujjwala scheme.
The scheme was launched with the aim of providing cooking gas to rural and underprivileged families, who were using traditional cooking fuels like wood, coal and cow dung cakes. In the second phase, big relief has been given to migrant laborers to get gas connections. He will be able to get a new LPG gas connection even without a permanent address. In the second phase, a refill is also being given free of cost.
