Sources told News18.com that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) may extend the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITR filing) for the financial year 2020-21 (Assessment Year 2021-22). The last date for filing ITR for FY 2021 is 30 September. Earlier it was to be filed by 31 July 2021 but recently the deadline was extended to 30 September 2021.
Actually, the new portal of Income Tax Department has been facing problems since its inception. Technology company Infosys has prepared a new portal. www.incometax.gov.in was launched on 7th June. But since the beginning, taxpayers were facing many difficulties in this.
For the last two to three years, the taxpayer had to face many errors while filing the annual return through the new income tax website www.incometax.gov.in. Many users took to social media platforms to express their difficulties while using the new income tax portal.
After this, the Union Finance Ministry has summoned Salil Parekh, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Infosys, which made the portal. Parekh has been called today to explain to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as to why the problems related to the e-filing portal have not been fixed even after a long time.
In view of this, the Income Tax Department has allowed manual filing of remittance forms. Also, the date of submission of forms electronically has been extended. However, soon after the summons, Infosys has claimed that the Income Tax website is running smoothly and the problem has been resolved.
Infosys India Business Twitter handle tweeted that the emergency maintenance work of Income Tax India portal is over and the portal is now live. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the taxpayers.
