Jan-Dhan: The central government is preparing a roadmap for Jan Dhan 3.0. It will focus on door step banking, digital financial products and flagship pension and insurance schemes. The government also aims to ensure the availability of banking touch points from any residence within 5 km. The Economic Times quoted a government official with knowledge of the scheme as saying, “We are working with banks to create a broad structure. This will improve access, simplify digital loan application and ensure quick response to retail, MSME and agriculture loans.

Jan Dhan account linked to other schemes

The government wants banks to link Jan Dhan accounts with schemes like Atal Pension Yojana, PM Svanidhi, Stand Up India and Sukanya Samridhi.

“Based on the Jan Dhan Account, Aadhaar and Mobile (JAM) framework, banks can offer new analytics-based offers to customers and expand their coverage,” the official said.

Banks need to adopt a partnership model

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at the ‘Creating Synergies for Seamless Credit Flow and Economic Growth’ conference, said that banks need to adopt a partnership model. They should let go of the culture that the bank is the approver and the customer is the applicant.

Banks were asked to participate in the schemes

The PM had said, ‘In a research of the banking sector itself, it has come to the fore that the more Jan Dhan accounts are opened in the states, the less the crime rate has come down.’

He had discussed major schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Swamitva and Svanidhi and asked banks to participate and play their part in these schemes.
